Tees Barrage Development

Work on the £4.6 million Tees Barrage redevelopment started in March 2010. The work includes the addition of a new shorter, steeper white water course, which includes a canoe lift designed for disabled paddlers. The redevelopment also includes the addition of four Archimedes Screws, designed to pump water from the bottom pool to the top tool, to guarantee consistent water levels throughout the course, at all states of tide. More information about the Archimedes Screws can be found on our Archimedes Screws page (HERE).

Along with information on the Tees Barrage Development, we also offer information on many other redevelopment projects in the area, including:

  • The £300 Million Stockton-on-Tees North Shore Development (HERE).
  • The £4 Million Stockton-on-Tees Globe Theatre Revamp

London 2012 Olympic Games

The redevelopment project was not only to improve the Tees Barrage itself, or as a part of the the much bigger development project around the Stockton riverside area. It was in anticipation for the London Olympics in 2012, at which the Tees Barrage will be holding some of the training events, and hopefully be attracting spectators from all over the world.
